So tell us, what is the problem your startup is out to fix?

Employee recognition in the workplace is fundamentally broken and with so many employees stuck working at home, it’s getting harder than ever to provide any meaningful recognition to teams. We’re fixing it by enabling Managers everywhere to recognise their team’s effort by digitally shouting them their next round of coffees, cocktails, burgers and beers. With Nextround, Managers can recognise their staff in a way that they want to be recognised and with a low cost per reward, organisations can now recognise the top 100% (not just the top 5%).

That's amazing! We bet it is a pretty full-on process. What does a typical day look like for you?

Well that’s a tricky one! No two days are the same! But it’s not uncommon for us to spend a ton of our time speaking to our clients, our partners, our development team and researching the best hospitality businesses in Melbourne and Sydney to make sure we’re bringing the best possible rewards to our clients. Oh, all of that plus a coffee, or 2, or 5!

Describe your business in three words.

What's the best piece of advice you've received on this journey?

I think the best advice has been to just keep going and that success isn’t linear. We found when we started the startup journey, there was this expectation that it was going to either fly or fall flat on its face in the first 6-12 months and when it did neither, we received some pretty clear coaching to just keep going. We’re so glad that we did because Nextround today looks so different to 6 months ago, and 12 and 18 months ago when it was just an idea. If we hadn’t kept iterating, changing, improving, iterating we’d never be here and there was no silver bullet, it just took time (and I feel like we’re only just scratching the surface even now).

After a big day working, what do you do to look after yourself and unwind?

Definitely, a good binge, currently pretty hooked on Better Call Saul on Stan with a cup of something depending on the type of day.

AND FINALLY, What's the next milestone you're working towards?

Our next big milestone is to attract some external funding to allow us to ramp up our sales and product capabilities and to hit some of our sales goals. We’ve recently moved from trials into growth mode so we really want to put some big effort behind our growth strategy and see what we’re capable of.
